This is a serious piece of American barbershop history. Brown and Sharpe Manufacturing Company of Providence, Rhode Island was one of the premier precision tool makers in the United States, and their hand-operated hair clippers were genuinely considered the standard of the world, as stated on the original paper pamphlet included with this set. The clipper is all nickel-plated steel with the elegant scissor-action handle design typical of quality hand clippers from the late 19th and early 20th century. The blade is marked No. 000, the finest cut size, and is stamped Brown and Sharpe Mfg. Co., Providence R.I., U.S.A. The pamphlet is headed \"Bressant Hair Clipper Parts\" and references Brown and Sharpe by name, suggesting this is the Bressant model, one of their better-known professional lines. Also included is a period barber scissors with the characteristic hooked finger rest on one handle, a professional barbershop feature. Four pieces total.
Brown and Sharpe stopped making hair clippers as they pivoted entirely to precision measurement tools, making surviving examples increasingly sought by barbershop antique collectors, tool collectors, and Americana enthusiasts. The original pamphlet being present dramatically increases the collectibility of this set.
