Charming matching pair of antique German figural candlesticks featuring a young vineyard girl and boy standing beside tall columns decorated with raised grapevines, leaves, grape clusters, and harvest baskets.
Each candlestick is molded in a matte bisque porcelain and individually hand decorated in soft ivory, green, purple, coral, black, and gold tones. The figures have delicately painted faces, period clothing, and dimensional grape and vine details.
Both pieces are stamped in red on the underside:
MADE IN GERMANY
One base also bears the hand-applied number 40, likely a decorator, mold, or production number.
These appear to date from the early 20th century, approximately 1900–1930, and were likely made as decorative export porcelain.
Measurements
* Approximately 8½ inches tall
* Bases approximately 3½ to 4 inches wide
* Candle openings are approximately ⅝ to ¾ inch across
* The sockets are slightly irregular in shape, consistent with their molded and hand-finished construction
Good antique display condition with normal wear associated with age.
There is age-related surface wear, light discoloration, small areas of paint and gilt loss, and some roughness around the candle-cup rims. The undersides retain old red wax-like or gummy protective material, which has been left in place to avoid damaging the porcelain or stamps.
No obvious major cracks, breaks, or structural repairs were noticed during inspection. Because these are delicate antique pieces, please enlarge and examine all photographs carefully. Photographs are considered part of the condition description.
A distinctive matching pair for a collection of German bisque porcelain, Victorian or Edwardian décor, figural candlesticks, vineyard décor, or grape and harvest collectibles.
