A wonderfully charming antique German porcelain nodder with fabulous Chinoiserie presence! This seated female figure features a working bobbing head, an oversized pink fan, delicate raised decoration, and touches of gilt throughout.
Often called “pagoda figures,” “nodders,” or nodding figures, European porcelain examples were inspired by the centuries-long Western fascination with Asian decorative arts. This example appears to date to the late 19th/early 20th century and is conservatively attributed as German; no maker’s mark is visible in the photos.
• Style/Period: Antique Chinoiserie / Asian-influenced decorative figure, likely late 19th to early 20th century
• Material: Bisque/unglazed porcelain with hand-painted decoration and gilt accents
• Color: Soft white, blush pink, peach and gold
• Size: Approx. 6\" tall x 5.5\" long
• Condition: Very good antique condition with light surface wear, scattered gilt loss and age-related patina consistent with age. No chips noted. The articulated head remains functional and gently bobs back and forth.
A delightful collector piece with especially pretty coloring—the large pink fan creates a wonderful backdrop for the figure’s delicately modeled face.
