Antique Early ABP Stone Cut Glass WHISKEY DECANTER WHEAT SHEAVES W Stopper
Genuine original, hand blown, circa early 1800s, most likely 1820s-1830s Georgian Period
Decanter size with stopping is approx.8.5\" tall, without stopper, decanter is 6 3/8\" high. Base of decanter is squared with angled corners- 3.25\" x 3.25\"
Stopper itself is approx. 3 1/8\" high and is just a hair over 6\" around at its widest centerpoint.
The shoulder of the decanter is covered with a stunning design of WHEEL CUT diamond cuts of different sizes and shapes- some are more elongated, some shorter. They slant downwards and follow the natural outline of the bottle shape.
Neck of the decanter is octagonal with more wheel cuts on the underside of the decanter top.
Top lip of the decanter is quite extraordinary- it is round in shape, and has a completely hand cut, channeled DEEP GROOVE across the top for pouring whiskey out of
4 straight sides form a square shaped bottle, but each of the square\'s corners has a slanted wheel cut.
Each side of the decanter has a hand cut [grey cut] stalk of wheat which is surrounded by arching leaves on the stem. Each head of wheat is slightly different on each side, although the basic pattern shape is the same
Hand blown glass- you can see that bit at the base the thickness varies slightly and arcs up a bit at the base.
On the underside of the base is a large, wheel cut star with beveled, radiating arms
Weighted base.
Stopper has a round base, with octagonal cuts around the neck, and a large, faceted ball on top covered with interlocking diamond shapes. There are 2 concave bubble arcs in the glass near the neck- naturally created during the hand blowing process and not chips or damage. They are very smooth and difficult to see unless searching.
An heirloom piece.
This is a gorgeous decanter, such a charming shape, almost impossible to locate. Great for a collector, would look fantastic in any setting and is perfect for use.
Excellent antique condition, the only tiny fleabites to this entire piece are some very small fleabites in a ring around the inside of the neck of the bottle from where the stopper rests- normal for age and use- not sharp or jagged and really tiny. Stopper also has a couple of flat, smooth flake chips off bottom- normal for age and use- very minor- see last 2 pics- does not affect how it sits inside bottle neck. No other nicks chips scratches or damage. Superior craftsmanship, this is truly a piece of Art and a very fine example of EARLY American Glass. Please see all pics and use zoom.
