Antique French Art Nouveau Majolica / Barbotine Iris Vase – Circa 1895–1905
Up for sale is a spectacular monumental antique Art Nouveau majolica vase standing approximately 19.25 inches tall. Dating to the turn of the 20th century, this impressive two-handled vessel features dramatic high-relief floral decoration and the flowing organic forms associated with the Art Nouveau movement.

Design & Decoration:
The vase features a rich, high-gloss emerald green ground covered with large sculptural bearded irises in deep purple, yellow, and soft pink. The flowers project prominently from the body, creating an exceptionally dimensional appearance.
Long green leaves sweep vertically across the vase and blend into the dramatic double handles and flared base. The handles have the twisting, root-like and stem-inspired forms characteristic of Art Nouveau’s organic “whiplash” design language.
The cream-glazed interior provides a striking contrast to the saturated exterior colors.
The overall form and decoration are strongly associated with French Barbotine majolica produced during the Onnaing-era Art Nouveau period around 1900.
Condition:
Beautiful antique condition for its approximately 120+ year age and substantial size. The glaze remains bright and glossy, and the vase displays exceptionally well.
The condition of this piece is exceptional. Surprisingly I do not see any crazing cracks, chips, or restorations. One scratch on the back shown in photos. Any white seen in photos are simply glare from my staging lights
The underside shows expected shelf wear, darkening, and age consistent with an authentic turn-of-the-century ceramic piece.
