~ A wonderful and rare discovery! ~*~ This textile is truly amazing! This fragmented panel dates to circa 1830-50 and is constructed by using the most wonderful homespun panel, hand stitched down the center. This piece probably used to be quilted, pieces of the original batting are on the backside. The fabric is a linen and cotton blend and is a wonderful Turkey red. Of the original red borders, only two are partially remaining. The wonderful floral colors are stunning and rich; there are tones of green, blue and muted yellow and white tones in a whimsical pattern across the body. ~ The pattern is all block printed using hand carved wooden blocks. The condition of this panel is not ideal but it would still be wonderful for hanging and study! ~ Amazing for any textile collection. ( FF937)
MEASUREMENTS: This lovely panel measures about 77 inches by 67 inches, though the edges are uneven. ~
CONDITION: This textile is in as found, unwashed condition with storage dust and on the back there is storage dirt. I do not recommend cleaning this textile other than by a textile restoration specialists. It's simply too important to risk and is already quite damaged! There is storage dust, however there is nothing that would stop me from using this textile exactly as is. There are MANY holes and tears on this length and the edges too are ragged. The original border is hanging off in places. Please view photos closely. ~ it's an extraordinarily beautiful textile, one that will be cherished for many many years to come ~ ~*~ ~*~
