Antique French Count's Heraldic Silver Fob Seal with Seven Cannons Arms of Honour. 18th- early 19th C.
The top of the shield features a prominent continental European Count’s Coronet (Couronne de Comte) decorated with nine distinct pearls aligned horizontally on the rim.The core of the shield houses a highly rare and specific charge: seven classical muzzle-loading cannons / artillery pieces, neatly arranged alongside three diagonal bars. In French military tradition, such explicit weapon charges were "Arms of Honour" (Armes d'honneur). This proves the Count’s lineage belonged to a Grand Master of Artillery (Grand Maître de l'Artillerie), a siege commander.The shield is flanked by symmetrical, flowing rococo/classical scrollwork .The fob is designed in a classic ribbed/fluted skirt motif, where elegant silver pillars converge upward toward a secure, circular suspension loop.
Just imagine it.During the golden age of written correspondence, this very seal was used by a French military general-count to secure secret military dispatches, diplomatic letters, or alliance treaties in hot sealing wax.
