Collectible early to mid 19th Century Charles X of France Sulphide Glass hexagon shaped framed plaque, c. 1850. Features a hexagon shaped clear glass with detailed side profile portrait of Charles X (1757-1836) in military dress. Back of the glass has a diamond pattern, mounted in an antique board overlaid in fabric. Glass measures 3" x 2 1/4", board measures 5 1/8" x 3 3/4". The glass is in Mint to near mint condition with the exception of two very tiny fleabites to side as shown, there is wear to the mount.
Charles X, also known as Charles-Phillippe, was the last Bourbon King of France from 1824-1830. He became the leader of the ultra-royalists, a group within the French court that supported rule by divine right. Charles had a strong sense of duty. An uncle of the uncrowned Louis XVII and younger brother to reigning kings Louis XVI and Louis XVIII, he supported the latter in exile.
