Antique Foster Bros. No. 12 long-handled hog/livestock splitter cleaver. Heavy American commercial butcher\'s tool with large carbon-steel blade, hanging hole, long full-tang wooden handle and heavy forged bolster/ferrule.
Blade is stamped FOSTER with the arrow trademark, MADE IN U.S.A., and 12.
This is a true long-handled livestock/hog splitter rather than a standard kitchen meat cleaver. These oversized tools were designed for heavy commercial butchering and carcass processing.
Appears to retain its old/original wooden handle with three pins. Excellent untouched aged appearance.
Condition is as shown. Blade has extensive original patina, oxidation, surface rust/pitting, staining, scratches and edge wear from age and use. Handle has age-related wear, staining and marks. No attempt has been made to polish or restore the blade.
A substantial early American butcher\'s tool and impressive Foster Bros. display piece.
