We are offering an early German beer stein made in the early 1800s. The stein was made at the Schrezheim factory. Founded in 1772. the factory near Ellwangen in southern Germany produced many hand painted steins until it closed in 1865. The stein is made of traditional Schrezheim reddish clay and glazed with white tin glaze. The shape of the stein is called "Walzenkrug: in German translates to cylindrical stein. The steins were painted by factory decorators which were mostly floral designs. The stein has great pewter mounts as Schrezheim was famous for its' pewter. It consists of heavy lid with a thumblift and footring. This thumblift design was very common for the Schrezheim factory. The strap is very tight and the tang is firmly affixed to the lid. The lid has hand monogrammed initials of "M.S.". Please email if you have questions.
