From a great Rye New York collection, we have a great pleasure to offer you this fine Antique English 19th / early 20th Century Flip Top Lap Desk. Superb example decorated all around with gorgeous French style parquetry inlay. Top section has a brass escutcheon and a key, and when it opens it reveals the slope covered with a beautiful black leather that spreads over both halves of the piece. Upper half of the leather covered surface also liftts to reveal a paper storage compartment and a Chinese / Japanese style lacquered floral painting. Upper portion of the desk (that bears the key) covers two lidded compartments, in addition to another pair which once upon the time housed the inkwell. That entire section of the desk pulls up and out, and opens another storage \"basement\" for pens or writing instruments. Interior is black lacquered, while the outside of the box is in gorgeous vivid color mahogany.Condition is very good, minimal use /age wear - please see photos. Size is great to fit anywhere at 12.5\" wide, 10\" deep across, and 3.5\" tall when closed, while overall when opened and extended it reaches 20\" long. This will be a great collection addition,table or console decoration,a useful piece gracing any traditional or mid-century setting!
