Antique Dovetailed Seed Box Victorian Postcard Decoupage Americana c1900

Description:

A wonderful antique wooden seed box, beautifully constructed with dovetailed corners and featuring a colorful Victorian-era postcard decoupaged onto the lid.

Dating to approximately the late 19th or early 20th century, this charming box has the warm reddish-brown finish, simple utilitarian construction, and wonderful character that make early American country antiques so appealing.

The lid has been decorated with a period postcard entitled “Framing the Declaration of Independence,” depicting America’s Founding Fathers gathered around a table during one of the defining moments of American history.

The postcard appears to have been applied to the box many years ago, giving this practical little storage piece an added layer of history and folk art charm.

Inside are three long compartments lined with dark blue-black fabric. Originally believed to have been a seed box, it was likely repurposed over the years for storing small personal belongings, sewing notions, keepsakes, or other household treasures.

A particularly appealing piece for collectors of primitive Americana, country antiques, antique postcards, patriotic memorabilia, and early American folk art.

It would look wonderful displayed on an antique writing desk, farmhouse shelf, or within a collection of early wooden boxes.
