Antique Cobalt Blue Norman Clark Patent Alcohol Lamp Watchmaker Jeweler For Sale

An unusual antique cobalt blue glass alcohol lamp based on Norman Clark\'s patentedwatchmaker and jeweler lamp design. The bottom of the glass is embossed with theJune 26, 1883 patent date associated with U.S. Patent No. 279,915.

Clark\'s distinctive design used a series of flat facets around the glass body so thelamp could be positioned upright or rested at different working angles. This allowedwatchmakers, jewelers and other precision craftsmen to position the flame convenientlywhile using a blowpipe for soldering and similar bench work.

This example has especially attractive deep cobalt blue glass and retains its metalburner assembly and internal wick. One photograph was taken with light behind thelamp specifically to show the wick still curled inside the glass body.

Very good antique condition. The cobalt blue glass body appears free of cracks,chips or repairs. Metal burner components show expected oxidation, tarnish andsurface wear consistent with age. The wick remains present inside the lamp.

The lamp has not been filled with alcohol or flame-tested. It is being offered as anantique collectible rather than represented as a currently serviced or safety-testedworking appliance. Please review all photographs closely, as they form an importantpart of the condition description.

Norman Clark of Sterling, Illinois patented this style of alcohol lamp in 1883 for useby watchmakers, jewelers and others working with a blowpipe. The unusual angularfaceted body was specifically designed so the lamp could be placed at severaldifferent angles while working. The patent date identifies the design and should notbe interpreted as a specific manufacturing date for this individual lamp.
