Antique Cigar Box Dayton Ohio Yara Cuba Pre Embargo Tax 1901 Ferneding Heymann For Sale

Today for sale we have an antique Yara Cuba cigar box manufactured by The Ferneding Heymann Co. of Dayton, Ohio, dating to approximately 1901 to 1905. The federal revenue stamp on the bottom reads Factory No. 555, 1st District, Ohio, and references the Act of March 2, 1901, placing this box firmly in the early years of the 20th century, well before the Cuban trade embargo forever changed the American cigar market. The exterior is covered in richly lithographed paper labels featuring the Yara Cuba brand in bold typography, a detailed Cuban coastal landscape scene with palm trees, waterways, and tropical buildings rendered in orange, green, and black, and ornate decorative borders throughout. The interior lid carries the full color Yara Cuba label with the brand’s oval landscape vignette and the Garantizados por el Fabricante and Tabaco Esquisitos text. The Ferneding Heymann Co. name and Dayton, Ohio attribution are printed inside the box. The paper labels show age wear and some loss consistent with over 120 years of existence, but the graphics remain clear and largely intact.
