Charming old cast iron sleeping cat doorstop depicting a curled-up cat resting with its paws tucked beneath its body.
The cat retains remnants of an old black painted finish with a dark red/maroon painted collar and bow. It has a wonderful heavily aged surface with extensive rust, oxidation, flaking and loss to the original paint, discoloration and general surface wear throughout.
The underside is hollow and also shows considerable oxidation and age wear. No maker’s mark was found, and the exact maker and age are unknown.
Measures approximately 10 inches long x 6 inches wide x 3-1/2 inches high.
Appears to have spent considerable time in a damp or outdoor environment. Offered in its as-found, unpolished condition. Please examine all photographs carefully for the extensive finish wear and rust.
A great old decorative piece with strong primitive, folk-art appeal and an especially appealing sleeping-cat form.
