This antique CDV photo features a portrait of Myatt Kyau in Kalamazoo Michigan circa approx 1870s.
From my research:He was a student at Kalamazoo College in the 1870s. He was also the first Asian graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School in 1882. Originally from Burma (now Mayanmar) and a member of the Karen ethnic group. He had a nickname in college \"Simmie\". After he graduated from med school in the 1882, he returned to his homeland where he worked as a village doctor in Rangoon. He founded a christian hospital there. He died at 68 years old in Burma 1914.
