Up for sale is a beautiful, authentic late 19th-century Victorian oil/kerosene lamp font (fuel reservoir base) from the height of the Aesthetic Movement era.
The hollow body is crafted from heavy, true opaque black glass (historically known as Black Hyalith glass) designed to mimic expensive East Asian lacquerware. It features incredibly well-preserved, hand-painted raised enamel decorations of a butterfly and delicate floral foliage. The top is fitted with its original, solid brass mounting collar.
The collar is clearly stamped with the maker's mark:"THE SILBER LIGHT COMPY. LIMITED "LONDON "PATENTED"Condition Report:Excellent antique condition for its age.
The glass body is free of any major cracks or deep scratches and you can see the minor scratches in the photographs, which make them look way worse than they actually are because my lighting is very, very strong.
The enameled details remain crisp, bright, and beautifully textured. The brass collar shows a gorgeous, natural aged patina with clear, legible stamped lettering. Please see all photos for a close-up look at the condition.
Note To Buyers: This listing is for the decorative glass font and attached brass collar only. It does not include the mechanical wick-burner assembly, internal glass chimney, or outer shade. This is a rare, high-quality survivor piece that is perfect for a historical lamp restoration project or as a standalone antique display piece.
