Antique Carved Meerschaum Portrait of Benjamin Hallowell Carew
Antique framed carved meerschaum relief portrait depicting Benjamin Hallowell Carew (1761–1834), British Royal Navy officer and close associate of Admiral Horatio Nelson.
The portrait is executed in relief and mounted in an antique period frame with gilt oval surround. The reverse retains old handwritten inscriptions and original backing paper showing age and wear consistent with its age.
A similar example was previously identified and sold at sale as a portrait of Benjamin Hallowell Carew.
