There is now exposed wire between the plug and the cord. IT IS NOT SAFE TO USE UNTIL REPAIRED. The retracting function still works well.The lamp has been painted at some point in it\'s life but it appears the paint will come off fairly easy as some of it came off as I wiped the dust off of it with soapy water.
