An exceptional and highly collectible antique Art Nouveau jeweled picture frame, dating to the turn of the 20th century (circa 1895–1905). This authentic period piece beautifully exemplifies the organic elegance of the European Art Nouveau movement, featuring a finely cast fluid filigree design adorned with a charming perched swallow motif.Possible & Craftsmanship
• Construction: Heavy, high-quality cast brass with an elegant openwork filigree border.
• Embellishments: Set with vibrant, multi-colored glass rhinestones embedded into the brass setting.
• Assembly Marks: The interior of the frame and the original brushed brass backplate feature a matching, hand-stamped workshop bench mark ("3") in a stylized European serif font. This matching number confirms the frame and backplate were hand-fitted as a unique pair during original production.
• Glass: Retains its rare, original outer convex (bubble) glass.
Dimensions & Display
• Overall Frame Size: Measures 7.5 inches tall by 5 inches wide.
• Portrait: Holds a traditional round portrait print or photograph (currently houses an antique portrait from Taber Studio).
• Backing: Features its original heavy brass backing plate with secure metal closure screws and an integrated easel stand for tabletop display.Condition Report
This frame is in good, honest antique condition with beautiful original patina to the brass.
• Metalwork & Stones: The brass filigree structure is structurally sound with no cracks or repairs. The rhinestones are bright, with one purple crystal missing from the setting as seen in picture.
• Glass: The critical outer convex bubble glass is fully intact and beautiful with noted edge chipping seen in pictures. Please note that the flat internal circular glass spacer (which sits behind the filigree) is present but cracked as seen in pictures; it is hidden during display and can easily be used as a template for a modern replacement if desired.Jennings Brothers Style, Bradley & Hubbard Era
