This authentic pair of Art Deco "Owl on Books" figural bookends dates to the 1920s–1930s and features an intricately detailed horned owl perched atop a vintage book stack.
This set boasts a highly desirable and exceptionally well-preserved vibrant turquoise-blue polychrome factory paint finish on the book covers, accented by crisp yellow and black detailing around the eyes.
Attributed to the Pompeian Bronze Company (Model #56) or the early Marion Bronze Company casting runs, these heavy, unmarked bookends are constructed using the traditional period electroformed bronze-clad technique over a solid compositional core.
Measuring approximately 6.5 inches tall, the pair is in excellent antique condition with no structural splits to the metallic skin, retaining a gorgeous original aged dark bronze patina. A beautiful, colorful statement piece perfect for any Art Deco, library, or wildlife collector.
This pair is completely unmarked on the rear spine, consistent with Marion Bronze's continuation use of the original Pompeian #56 molds. They retain their original yellow glass eyes and vivid turquoise/blue paint accents, showing only minor, expected age-related paint flakes and shelf wear on the edges.
The pair weighs 5 lbs 8.5 ounces (together). Will be shipped with care.
