A smaller-format crowned Madonna from ANRI Val Gardena, standing on a painted globe with individually inlaid gold stars. The crown is fully carved and gold-leafed, each point detailed. The necklace is painted bead by bead. The Child holds a small orb, carved and painted as a separate element in his hand.
The gold leaf mantle is applied to a traditional gesso ground — the surface carries the warm layered depth that separates genuine gold leaf from paint. Where the mantle breaks and folds at the hip, the gold follows each carved plane individually. The hair falls in carved waves down the reverse, worked strand by strand from crown to shoulder.
The reverse is fully painted and finished. The mantle continues around the figure in the same polychrome, the hair resolved in full wave structure behind the crown, the globe and stars carried around the base.
The figure carries a stable hairline crack at the Madonna's arm — old, not structural, visible in the photos. The piece carries its age honestly.
ANRI ceased all production in 2018. This piece will never be made again. Mid-century polychrome pieces at this finish level become harder to find in clean condition every year.The Sculpture:
