This is a rare, late 19th / early 20th century hand‑carved Black Forest style inkwell and pen holder, a true collectible for lovers of antique desk accessories.
Design: Features a St. Bernard dog perched on a tree-stump base, inspired by the Alpine rescue dogs. The dog wears a small barrel (decorative) around its neck — a classic Alpine motif.
Functionality: The inkwell has its original screw‑top lid (single-slotted screw), a hallmark of authentic antique construction. The base also includes a pen tray integrated into the design.
Material: Hand-carved wood (likely linden), with excellent detailing on the dog, fur, and naturalistic bark texture.
Condition: Excellent — the carving is sharp and well-preserved, the lid is original and secure, minimal wear consistent with age, beautiful patina.
Period: Circa 1880–1910
Origin: Switzerland / Germany (Black Forest style)
A highly collectible desk accessory that combines artistry and functionality — perfect for collectors of Black Forest, antique inkwells, or unique European desk decorations.
