Antique 19th Century Tressemann & Vogt Porcelain Portrait Plaque Limoges France
Tressemann & Vogt is one of the better known porcelain makers from the Limoges France area at the turn of the last century. Exceptional antique Tressemann & Vogt (T&V) Limoges porcelain portrait plaque, dating to circa the 1880s. The beautifully rendered portrait depicts a young woman in an elaborately embroidered, high-necked garment, with delicately modeled facial features, finely detailed hair and jewelry, and dimensional painted decoration throughout her clothing. The rich burgundy embroidery and fine gilt border provide lovely contrast against the soft, muted portrait.
The decoration exhibits remarkable hand-painted detail, including raised/textured brushwork beneath the glaze, giving the garment unusual depth and dimension. Marked T&V Limoges France to the reverse.
A particularly beautiful example of late-19th-century Limoges portraiture and a wonderful cabinet piece for a collector of antique porcelain, portrait plaques, or Victorian decorative arts.
