Antique KPM Krister Silesia Lidded Sugar Bowl in the Coveted \"Alice\" Mold
Own a stunning survivor of vanished European borders with this gorgeous, double-handled antique sugar bowl—boasting vibrant purple blooms and a heavy, hand-painted scalloped gold trim! Its history is amazing to read. Look at this one, you wont regreat it. Maker History & Origin
This exceptional piece was created under the direct auspices of Krister Porzellan-Manufaktur (KPM), an industrial titan founded by Carl Franz Krister in 1831 within the prosperous, historic pottery region of Waldenburg, Silesia (historically part of Germany, now Wałbrzych, Poland). Seeking to capture the high-end prestige of the royal-backed KPM Berlin works, Krister cleverly leveraged the identical \"KPM\" initials and crowned crest iconography to market his exceptional wares to elite Western consumers. By the time this specific line was introduced, the factory was an automated powerhouse. It was eventually integrated into the renowned Rosenthal porcelain group in 1921, before being permanently redrawn and nationalized following the geopolitical map changes of World War WWII. This piece serves as a rare, tangible artifact of a bygone German industrial empire.
Manufacturing Process & Craftsmanship
This sugar bowl is an intriguing hybrid of robust industrial slip-molding and delicate hand-finishing techniques. Formed from highly refined Silesian kaolin clay, quartz, and feldspar mined directly from the company\'s private deposits, it features a glassy, vitreous, bone-white porcelain body. The clear protective underglaze maintains a high-gloss, mirror-smooth shine. Before the pattern was finalized, an elite master gilder manually brushed a liquid gold compound onto the wavy rim to form the heavy scalloped border.
The vibrant purple and magenta anemone poppies or peony floral groupings were subsequently applied via high-contrast lithographic tissue-decal transfers. Because the lid and basin were fired in separate parts of the factory kilns, workers applied a red-painted \"21\" batch mark to the base and a matching gold \"17\" gilder code under the lid rim. This intricate cross-reference number sequence ensured the correct matching lid and body variants were paired together perfectly before leaving the factory line over a century ago.

A Vanished Artifact Because the Waldenburg asset catalogs and factory lines were permanently abandoned or destroyed at the close of World War II, named patterns like the \"Alice\" mold are increasingly difficult to track down.
