Beautiful set of 9 antique John Maddock & Sons Ltd. Royal Ivory “Minerva” dinner plates, made in England and dating to the late 1920s Art Deco period.
Each plate measures approximately 10” in diameter and features a warm ivory ground with vibrant cobalt blue, orange, red and green floral decoration, complemented by distinctive mustard-yellow/ochre ornamental motifs. The scalloped, geometric shape gives these plates wonderful Art Deco character.
Marked on the underside Royal Ivory / John Maddock & Sons Ltd / Made in England / Regd Shape 737954 / Minerva. One plate also retains a Maddock England shield label/mark.
Condition: Good antique condition with age and use-related wear. There are visible utensil/knife marks and surface scratches, particularly in the centers. One plate has a small chip along the rim that is visible from the back/underside but is not readily visible from the front. There may also be crazing and minor decoration/edge wear consistent with pieces of this age. Please review the close-up photographs carefully.
Despite the wear, this is a striking set with strong color and beautiful period styling—ideal for an Art Deco collection, colorful vintage tablescape, plate wall, English cottage or grandmillennial interior.
