Antique 1915 Women\'s Liberty Bell Justice Bell Suffrage Leaflet + VOTE Ribbon
THIS ITEM: This is an original Women\'s Liberty Bell 1915 Pennsylvania Women\'s Suffrage Association Leaflet.The VOTE VOTE VOTE ribbon was the type of ribbon cut into hat bands, and armbands for the Justice Bell rallies. The hand bill reads Help break the chains that hold the bronze clapper silent. Vote \'Yes\' on the Suffrage Amendment on Election Day.In1915 Katharine Wentworth Rushenberger commissioned a 2000 lb. replica of the Liberty Bell (without the crack) inscribed \"Establish Justice\". It\'s clapper was chained silent to symbolize women being silenced by lack of vote. Mounted on a flatbed truck with a \"Votes for women\" banner, it toured all 67 Pennsylvania counties - 5000 miles - In summer-fall 1915 to rally support for the statewide suffrage referendum on Nov 2, 1915.
The referendum failed, and the bell remained silent until Sept 25, 1920, when it finally rang on Independence Square after passage of the 19th Amendment. It is now at Washington Memorial Chapel, Valley Forge.Black letters on a light green background.
