Original, authentic antique April 14, 1908 handwritten Edwardian children's schoolhouse letter. Written by a young girl named Alma Lewis to her friend Edith on beautiful, embossed red floral stationery.
The extensive, double-sided letter is a wonderful social history time capsule, packed with innocent turn-of-the-century grade-school gossip, endearing spelling errors, and period details. Alma writes about her classmates and teacher (Miss Ball), noting that "Edith B. has the measles," two boys (John Stackhouse and Stephen) were punished inside for throwing rocks at a birdhouse, a classmate moved to Philadelphia, and a girl named Edith T. brought a custom "paper dress" to school in a bundle to wear. A phenomenal piece of early 1900s Americana, youth history, and folk ephemera.
