Antique early 20th-century Christmas/New Year advertising presentation featuring the color print “Like Father, Like Son,” distributed by the France Milling Company of Cobleskill, New York.
The central color illustration depicts a humorous sporting scene with a group of gentlemen in period hunting attire gathered indoors with dogs and riding/hunting equipment. The print is titled “LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON” along the lower portion, with a copyright marking and what appears to be a 1907 date at lower right.
The print is mounted on a textured presentation sheet and was originally protected by a decorative translucent vellum-style overlay printed in red with:
“Best Wishes for A Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year”
The overlay also bears the France Milling Company, Cobleskill, New York name and a festive holly-and-candle illustration.
Condition: This piece is being sold in its original antique condition. The translucent vellum-style cover is heavily deteriorated and extremely fragile, with substantial toning, brittleness, tears, losses/chipping along the edges and a large area of loss at the upper right. It should be handled with considerable care.
Importantly, the color print beneath the overlay is much better preserved, retaining strong, attractive colors and considerable image detail. The heavier presentation paper shows age toning, spotting, edge wear and other expected signs of age. Please review all photographs closely, particularly the images showing the print with the fragile overlay lifted.
An unusual piece of early American Christmas advertising ephemera with appeal to collectors of antique holiday material, New York advertising, sporting/hunting imagery and early color prints.
