RARE Antique John Wyeth & Bro Willow Charcoal Lozenges Tin, Philadelphia, SCARCE Apothecary, 1901
An exceptionally RARE, highly scarce survivor of turn-of-the-century pharmaceutical advertising. This authentic antique pocket tin contained "Compressed Lozenges of Pure Willow Charcoal (Ten Grains)" manufactured by the historic John Wyeth & Bro. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Unlike more common antique tins of this era, this specific deep-blue Willow Charcoal variant is virtually undocumented online and highly elusive. As ephemeral product packaging meant to be discarded after use, very few of these tins avoided the trash pile or survived environmental destruction over the last 100+ years.
The lid has an ornate, complex layout typical of early Wyeth lithographs, including full original product directions for treating indigestion, acidity, and heartburn, complete with a beautifully preserved paper label fragment detailing specific constipation uses.
Condition: Used. Authentic antique condition. Features beautiful, deep-blue lithography with a distinct patina. Incredible survival rate for ephemeral medical packaging. Colors and text remain bright and legible. There is localized surface oxidation and minor wear to edges, typical of a 100+ year-old collectible tin. This tin is empty.
Please keep in mind this is an antique item and not new; surface wear consistent with careful age may be present. Photos are of the actual item you will receive. Please view all photos as they are part of the I’m happy to answer any questions or send additional photos upon request.
