Bring a touch of charming Victorian-era nostalgia to your collection with this exceptional antique circa 1900 hand-painted Gebrüder Heubach German bisque porcelain character figurine depicting a young boy in a traditional sailor uniform preparing to playfully toss a freshly picked piece of fruit. This high-quality European art porcelain piece showcases the legendary naturalistic style of early 20th century Thuringian workshops, featuring a gorgeous matte finish, a soft pastel color palette, and lifelike, finely sculpted intaglio eyes that give the boy a wonderfully expressive countenance. Beneath a large, puffy orange winter or traveler's tam cap accented with a subtle gold rim, the boy is meticulously detailed with rosy cheeks and finely molded blonde hair, dressed in a classic striped under-jersey and a light blue sailor top adorned with fine, raised white beaded detailing along the seams and cuffs. Seated flat, he holds a beautifully molded, wicker-textured orchard harvest basket overflowing with a diverse assortment of different fruits, including smooth rounded apples, orchard pears, and a distinctively textured center pineapple or berry cluster nestled in green grass between his legs, while dynamically cocking his right arm back with an additional piece of fruit ready to throw. The hollow interior base features two internal kiln-venting holes on the underside alongside tiny decorative holes on top of the green foliage inside the basket, allowing this rare cabinet showcase piece to double as a highly specialized antique table shaker. Although entirely unmarked on the base, which was standard for these early European export runs, the exceptionally realistic facial modeling, separate shoes, and premium porcelain weight are definitive hallmarks of authentic Heubach craftsmanship, making this piece a premier addition for dedicated collectors of antique German bisque figurines, character art dolls, or rustic country cottage decor. shoes, and premium porcelain weight are definitive hallmarks of authentic Heubach craftsmanship, making this piece a premier addition for dedicated collectors of antique German bisque figurines, character art dolls, or rustic country cottage decor.
