Brandreth\'s Pills.Benjamin Brandreth was originally from Liverpool, England. His career began as a teenager when he mixed the herbal ingredients of a laxative his physician grandfather had created and molding the mixture into small pills. At only 19, Brandreth bought out the interests his relatives had in the business and relocated from Liverpool to London. In 1835 he left England, he started buying land along the Hudson River in northern Sing Sing (now Ossining), where he built facilities to produce and distribute his products. Eventually, he was able to build a massive industrial complex.
Allcock\'s Porous Plasters. A joint venture between Thomas Allcock and Dr. Brandreth led to the development of the Allcock Porous Plaster company in Ossining, NY. The plasters were not only supposed to help lumbago – advertisements suggested using them for such varied disorders as quinsy (you had to put a strip of plaster under your chin, stretching from ear to ear), diabetes, St Vitus’s Dance, epilepsy, dyspepsia, diarrhea, coughs and colds, asthma, pleurisy, whooping cough, consumption, ruptures, sciatica, paralysis, rheumatism, tic douloureux and kidney problems.

For chafing and itching one application is usually sufficient to effect a cure. For frost bites and tender feet it takes away the pain and soreness quickly. For chapped hands and cold sores on the lips it is much better than other preparations. Also, the quickest and most effective remedy for chilblains, sore muscles, skin Irritations.
