This rare piece of British royal history was manufactured in England in 1887 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria, honoring her 50th year on the throne. These heavily textured plates were produced by leading Victorian glass hubs in Northeast England, predominantly Sowerby's Ellison Glass Works or Edward Moore & Co..
• The Focal Point: The center features a highly crisp, three-dimensional relief molding of St. Edward's Crown. Below the crown base rest the crossed hilts of the Sovereign's ceremonial scepter and defense sword. Bounding the top of this royal crest is the imperial motto "GOD SAVE OUR QUEEN".
• The Rim & Texturing: Bypassing plain glass to catch maximum light, the plate uses a frosted, heavily stippled background pattern. The outer perimeter features raised lettering spelling out "QUEEN VICTORIA'S JUBILEE" in uppercase format.
• Historical Cartouches: Interspersed along the scalloped edge are stylized shield crests. The left-side shield frames the date "1837" (her coronation year) while the right-side shield frames "1887" (the Golden Jubilee milestone).
