Antique oversized mounted portrait photograph of an unidentified Victorian-era woman, photographed by Howard Ellis of Pawnee City, Nebraska.
Howard Ellis was an early Nebraska photographer active in Pawnee City during the latter half of the 19th century. Examples of his photographic work survive in institutional collections, adding historical interest to this portrait beyond that of a typical unidentified cabinet photograph.
The woman is shown in an oval vignette portrait wearing period clothing with an elaborate hairstyle, lace collar, and decorative bow. Based on the photographic presentation, clothing, hairstyle, and photographer's period of activity, this photograph likely dates to the late 1870s to 1880s.
The mounted photograph measures approximately 8 1/2" x 5 1/4", substantially larger than a standard cabinet card.
