Anonymous - The Guinness Alice - Art PostcardA grinning, top-hatted figure holding a pocket watch occupies the center of this fantastical ensemble, surrounded by formally dressed animals and birds. A jacketed rabbit stands prominently at left, while an owl, mouse, long-beaked birds, a large green crab and an elongated crustacean crowd the scene with theatrical variety.Fine cross-hatching and animated contour lines give the characters lively textures and exaggerated expressions. Saturated reds, blues, greens and ochres stand out against the open cream background, while the close grouping and shifts in scale create a playful, dreamlike mood. The combination of human manners, animal forms and comic distortion gives the image the character of an exuberant literary caricature.Details:
