Antique cards with gold edges, known as gilded edges, were primarily designed to signify luxury, elegance, and high quality. The practice added a premium, collectible feel, often enhancing the aesthetic charm of items like tarot cards, luxury playing cards, or special invitations.
The White Pass and Yukon route was a narrow-gauge rail line established during the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1890s to provide access from the port of Skagway, Alaska to Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon. (Today the beautiful scenery along the WPY Route is a tourist attraction, and the WPY Route refers to itself as “The Scenic Railway of the World”). The deck has 52 suited cards, plus 1 Joker and information cards.
