Alaska US Route 97 route marker.
Up for sale today is this Alaska US Route 97 sign. Made to the exact 1956 state standard, as used between then and the early 1960s along this famous highway.
US Route 97 in Alaska was signed very, very briefly as a continuation of the lower 48\'s US Route 97 along the Alaska Highway through British Columbia and Yukon. Unfortunately, the designation was dropped when Yukon refused to renumber their segment of the Alcan from route 1. Alaska\'s segment was reverted to the previous designation of Alaska Route 2. (The whole time, locals just referred to it as the Alaska Highway anyway.)
An original of these is very hard to come by. Very few were made, and they were only in place for a few years very long ago. An original would easily run many hundreds or even thousands of dollars on the collector\'s market. So here\'s your chance to get your hands on a fantastic display piece...without chancing legal trouble.
The sign is 16 by 16 inches, and weighs 5 lb. 1 oz..
This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
