ANTIQUE STEFANO DELLA BELLA ETCHING, SOLDIERS AT A PORTSIDE BOARDING, FRAMED g:
$174.90

Welcome to my store.
I am offering a part of the heritage of my family and other relatives, or even close ones, and there are many objects that have been in the same hands for several years.
No doubt when you receive this good you will enjoy it as much as others did in the ANTIQUE STEFANO DELLA BELLA ETCHING, 'SOLDIERS AT A PORTSIDE, BOARDING AT CIVITAVECCHIA PORT',GILDED WOOD FRAME.
Stefano della Bella (18 May 1610[1] – 12 July 1664) was an Italian draughtsman and printmaker known for etchings of a great variety of subjects, including military and court scenes, landscapes, and lively genre scenes. He left 1052 prints, and several thousand drawings, but only one known painting. He was born and later died in Florence, Italy.
This etching refers to theCivitavecchia Port.
This small-format seascape combines a wide variety of styles, genres, and traditions in a very limited space.
On a narrow strip of coastline in front of a fortress, preparations are underway to load two large schooners anchored close to the shore. In the foreground, a troop of Landsknechts, equipped with pikes and led by two mounted captains, advances from the left. In the center, two Landsknechts oversee the transfer of cannons and sacks by sailors to smaller vessels, protected from enemy attack by a third soldier armed with a rifle. In the background, the deployment of additional cohorts along the coast is visible.
The scene depicted could be preparations for a naval battle or the embarkation of soldiers/passengers. The fact that the fortress is not flying a flag suggests the latter.
This engraving has been attributed to several artists; inverted and rotated versions with different signatures have even been found. However, recent studies attribute its authorship to Della Bella, as many other engravings in the same style and with similar characteristics are attributed to him.Very Good!Original circa 1640.Etching of circa 1750-1800.Framed circa 1980.
