EARLY FRENCH RAPIER TYPE SWORD~ UNUSUAL GUARD ~ TRIANGULAR BLADE ~ESTATE ITEM

Click to see full size image.To my buyers: For years I have done business on using the name: gpstorageco*. The items I will be selling from this point on are being sold from my estate and from the estates of friends and relatives.
This French or Italian rapier style sword belonged to a friend of mine who recently passed away. He set aside vintage military items over the years. This blade was part of his sword collection and was one of the oldest swords he owned. He thought it might date to the 1600's.
This particular sword is unmarked and has a 25.25 inch triangular blade. The blade remains unsharpened to the edges and has heavily browned overall (see photos). The guard is brass as is the pommel and the grip is brass wire wrapped from top to base (see photos). The guard may be bent in because I can't get my hand all the way down (see photos). All the brass has nicely toned with age (see photos).
No scabbard was found with this sword and none is included.
This French, Italian or whatever rapier style sword shows average use/wear and a lot of age. It makes an excellent presentation andis guaranteed to be an original period piece. Great opportunity to complete a display or add to an advanced sword collection. Really an unusual piece that I know little about.
