This elegant piece features a soft pale blue and white porcelain body decorated with delicate pink flowers and green leaves, accented by extensive raised and hand-applied-looking gold decoration. Fine gold branches wind around the floral design, while additional gold detailing accents the rim, lid, handles, and edge of the attached saucer.
The unusual form is especially appealing. The round covered bowl is permanently attached to its coordinating underplate/saucer and has two angular handles, a fitted domed lid with finial, and a slot/opening for the included white porcelain spoon. It makes a beautiful display piece and would be a wonderful addition to a collection of Nippon, Japanese export porcelain, antique tableware, or hand-decorated porcelain.
The underside bears a green Nippon backstamp, which is shown in the photographs. Pieces marked “Nippon” were produced for the export market, and this style of marking is associated with Japanese porcelain from the late 19th/early 20th century.
Condition: Very good antique condition overall. There are no obvious cracks or major chips observed in the photographs. There is noticeable gold/gilt loss and wear on the handles, particularly along their upper surfaces and edges, consistent with age and handling. Some additional light age-related wear to the gilding may be present. The underside/foot area shows normal age-related discoloration and there is a small tan spot/mark on the underside of the attached saucer. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.
Included:
- Nippon porcelain covered bowl
- Permanently attached matching saucer/underplate
- Matching fitted lid
- White porcelain serving spoon
The floral decoration remains colorful and attractive, and the raised gold detailing gives the piece an especially ornate appearance. Despite the expected gilt wear, it displays beautifully.
A charming and increasingly difficult-to-find example of antique Nippon Japanese export porcelain, ideal for a china cabinet, curio collection, Victorian/Edwardian-inspired décor, or as a special addition to an established Nippon collection.
Please note: This is an antique/pre-owned item and may show minor manufacturing irregularities and signs of age that are typical of early porcelain. Please enlarge and examine all photos for the best representation of condition, decoration, backstamp, and included pieces.
