ANTIQUE MINIATURE RED PENNSYLVANIA BLANKET CHEST, HOPE CHEST
This item is a miniature hand made Pennsylvania pine blanket or dower or keepsake chest. Lift top lid with metal hinges,and square nails. Dating from the late 1800s. The hope chest has a hinged top that opens to reveal a spacious interior, making it both decorative and highly functional. The hinge construction appears old and may be hand-forged, which, together with the construction and naturally aged surface, suggests this may be an antique piece rather than a recent reproduction. I have not independently authenticated its exact age or origin, so it is being described based on the visible construction and characteristics. The red paint is probably not original to the box and was applied later in its life.
