This special embossed metal power box is adorned by a stylized 18th century noble woman. The box was put away by a family member who was an avid collector/ dealer with impeccable taste and a sharp eye for quality. The brass toned metal box presents many special stylistic elements . The image is on celluloid under a convex glass . The image is unfaded with no drop out or damage. The image is reminiscent of a Gainsboro like those at the FRICK museum in NYC.
The metal brass colored box is adorned by detailed embossing reminiscent of French antiques of the Napoleonic era. On the reverse of the lid is a plain minor with some minor drop out in a small area near the rim. Optically clear and without distortion. A surprise inside is an extra matching two sided mirror. One magnified, one plain. Both contaminated by a faint milky haze. This two sided mirror possesses a thin empossed metal frame. The inside of the powder box possesses a perfect heavy and removable clear glass liner. The inside base of the box shows some color spots, but hardly noticeable thru the glass liner. The bottom brass toned metal box has some wear, again nothing excessive. The seller cannot find any attribution .
The lid also possesses a very detailed embossed filigree adornment on the lid.
This is truly a statement to adorn any decor. Can be used to put your priceless ear buds or watch, earrings, rings, etc.
The seller has yet to see one in better condition and ESPECIALLY THE INTERNAL REMOVABLE TWO SIDED MIRROR. The perfect clear glass liner adds further value.
It is substantial weight. What a great gift !!!!!
Though unmarked , the seller feels it was made in the 1920’s. Irrespective it literally draws your attention and speaks to the owner. The image is striking in its beauty, elegance and colors. Actually could be oil on porcelain. But more likely celluloid.
