ANTIQUE DOUBLE COACH ROUTER – W.H. POND

Here is a scarce coach makingtool from the mid 1800’s. This is a double coach maker’s router. Used to cutmoldings or grooves in the curved sections of the wood coach. A basic use ofone like this was cutting the groove that a piece of glass or a panel would fitinto. These are very graphic looking tools that have a lot of visual appeal. Ithas two matching cutters that would be used on opposing grain on differentsides of the coach held in place with wood wedges. The length of the router is18-1/2” across the handles. Both cutters are held in with wedges securely andthe cutters are sharp and work to cut a groove. It has matching iron adjustablefences and lock in place with a bolt. The beech wood has a natural hand wornpatina and is in uncleaned condition. This tool was used during the mid to late1800’s to build the beautiful wooden coaches we rarely see today. Makers markW.H. POND, NEW HAVEN, on end of one handle. In fine working condition.

I have recently been selling manytools from my collection in fine condition to woodworkers who have emailed mewith compliments on the quality of the tools and their ready to use condition.
