A scarce antique solid glass advertising paperweight over 110 years old with an actual photograph of a saloon scene inside A.F.Reed's Saloon of Portland, Oregon, which had a notorious reputation as a rough joint ..... A.F.REED 143 3RD ST PORTLAND,OREwith an actual photograph of a bartender with 4 men drinking....Solid glass....4"x2 1/2" rect x 3/4"thick....Excellent shiny nice condition with only one small shallow flake on very bottom; no other damage and almost no wear. Albert F. "Alf" Reed operated a rowdy downtown Portland drinking establishment known as The Bachelor saloon from 1908 to 1912 at 143 3rd Street catering to a rough-and-tumble crowd with a distinctly unrespectable vibe..Reed bottled his own whiskey on site for retail and take home purchase, using signature embossed flasks featuring the name of his saloon..Detectives raided the second floor of the saloon on November 1, 1909, arresting Reed and nine patrons for running an illegal poker game. Reed had also made newspaper headlines earlier when a local bartender sued him for $10,000 over "alienation of affections," claiming Reed plied the bartender's wife with drink at the bar..
