This medal is 2 inches long, weighs 33 grams and it datesfrom the 18th century. It is one of several from the estate collection ofMexico Bishop Pascual Diaz. The Most Reverend Pascual Díaz y Barreto, SJ (June22, 1876 -- May 19, 1936) was a Mexican prelate of the Roman Catholic Church,who served as Archbishop of Mexico City from June 22, 1929, until his death in1936.

Gertrude the Great (January 6, 1256 -- November 17, 1302)was a German Benedictine nun and mystic. She is recognized as a saint by theCatholic Church and by The Episcopal Church. One of the most esteemed womensaints of the Christian West, she was a notable early devotee of the SacredHeart of Jesus. Her written works were also popular with the DiscalcedCarmelites in the sixteenth century. Francisco Ribera, the confessor to Teresaof Ávila, recommended that she take Gertrude as spiritual mistress and guide.The following prayer is attributed to Gertrude and is often depicted on herprayer card: \"Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of ThyDivine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today,for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in theuniversal Church, for those in my own home and in my family.
