History:
The Orthoceras, an ancient marine creature that lived approximately 400 million years ago during the Ordovician period.
The Orthoceras belongs to a group of extinct cephalopods known as nautiloids. These creatures are considered early ancestors of present-day cephalopods, such as squids and octopuses.
When the cephalopod died, its shell sank to the ocean floor and was gradually covered by sediment. Over time, minerals replaced the organic material, creating a fossilized replica of the creature.
Their fossils provide valuable insights about the Earth's ancient past, including prehistoric ecosystems and the evolution of marine life on our planet. They also serve as important tools for paleontologists studying prehistoric ecosystems.
Orthoceras fossils, with their beautifully preserved shells, provide a glimpse into a bygone era and are believed to possess healing properties. These fossils are highly sought after by collectors and are popular decorative pieces.
