Gofun dolls are traditional Japanese dolls finished with gofun, a smooth, white paste made from finely ground oyster shells mixed with animal glue. This specialized material gives the doll's face and hands a distinctive, glass-like matte porcelain finish that is warm to the touch, highly valued by collectors of authentic Japanese artistry.
