"Plantation Life" ~

With a group of Black Americana worker on the Plantation

Photographed and Publish, by the Kilburn BrothersNo. 874

~~~~~~~~
In 19th-century stereoscopy, "Plantation Life" was a widely published theme and title used by several prominent commercial photographers—most notably J. A. Palmer of Aiken, South Carolina, J. N. Wilson of Savannah, Georgia, and Alvan F. Styles (A.Styles) during his documentation of the American South.These views generally depicted post-Civil War agrarian activity across Southern agricultural landscapes, capturing scenes of African American labor in cotton fields, cabins, and rural home environments. Published alongside his Florida Views and broader Southern series, A. F. Styles captured genre scenes depicting local life, labor, and agricultural scenery to meet the strong demand from Northern tourists and regional stereoview collectors.
