6 Vintage Native American Postcards Alaska Tlingit Taos Hopi Wood 1900s Lot: $59.99
A fascinating group of six vintage Native American / Indigenous-themed postcards spanning Alaska and the American Southwest, including two unusual wooden/wood-veneer cards. What makes this lot especially appealing is the variety: early Alaska photography, Tlingit subjects, Southwest pueblo life, colorful period artwork, and two distinctive textured wooden postcards. Each card has its own character and historical charm.Included in the lot:1. Chief Anotklosh – Taku Tribe, Juneau, AlaskaStriking black-and-white portrait of Chief Anotklosh in traditional regalia. The image is associated with early Juneau photographer W.H. Case and is one of the most visually powerful cards in the group. The underlying photograph dates to the early 20th century.2. Chief Shake’s Totem – Fort Wrangell, AlaskaClassic early Alaska image showing the monumental Tlingit totem associated with Chief Shake’s house at Wrangell. The original photograph dates to the late 19th century, with postcard versions later published for the tourist and collector trade.3. A Taos Pueblo Drum MakerWonderful period image documenting traditional drum-making work at Taos Pueblo. The craftsman is shown actively working, giving the card more documentary interest than a simple posed portrait.4. “Home Sweet Home” Tipi SceneColorful early postcard depicting a Native American camp scene with tipis and figures under a dramatic Western sky. A very charming example of early Western postcard art.5. “Tom-Tom Maker” Wooden PostcardAn unusual color postcard printed on thin wood or wood veneer rather than ordinary paper stock. Features a vivid depiction of a traditional craftsman at work. The visible wood grain gives the card a distinctive handmade feel.6. “Yucca Kachina” Wooden PostcardAnother striking wood-veneer card with colorful Southwest artwork. The natural wood grain remains visible beneath the printed design, making this one especially eye-catching and unusual compared with standard paper postcards. The two wooden cards are particularly appealing in person because of their texture, natural grain, and unusual construction.Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with expected age-related wear, including toning, edge and corner wear, surface wear, and occasional marks or writing on the backs. Some cards are unused while others contain period writing. Please review all front and back photographs carefully for exact condition. These are the exact six postcards shown in the photographs and are being sold together as one lot.A very attractive group for collectors of vintage postcards, Alaska history, Tlingit imagery, Southwest Americana, Native American-related ephemera, early travel souvenirs, and unusual wooden postcards.
