5 VTG 30's / 40's S.ANARGYROS “MURAD THE TURKISH CIGARETTE” ORIG. STAMPED BOXES For Sale

Original familyownership’s offering of five (5) rare and collectible “Murad – The TurkishCigarette, S. Anargyros, P. Lorillard Co. Successor” rectangular cardboard cigarettetobacco boxes for twenty (20) cigarettes. CONDITION: EXCELLENT. With beautifulgraphics and lithography, the five (5) boxes have retained their rich, vibrant,multi-color front and back sides with no fading or discoloration. Likewise, thefive (5) inside advertising text box tops are pristine with no fading, scratchmarks or discoloration. Their multi-color fonts remain clear, bold and brightwith no fading or smudging. The five (5) top hinged lids open and close smoothlyand tightly. There are no signs of looseness, wiggling or separation of the toplids / hinges from the base sections. The five (5) boxes lay flat with nowarping. All the boxes’ corners are rigid with no dings or stubbing. The five(5) boxes have no dents or holes. One (1) box has a minor peel of the frontlabel at each of the bottom two (2) corners (see photo no.23). Each box measures3.625" x 2.875" x ½”.

The five (5) “DeeWitt Clinton” Cigarette Tax Revenue Class A 20 Series tax stamps have retainedtheir rich blue color. The five (5) “solemn countenances” of Gov. De Witt oneach of the five (5) tax stamps are pristine with no fading or damage. Thestamps remain firmly affixed to each box.

The New York-based Greek tobacconist Soterios Anargyros produced thehand-rolled Murad cigarettes, made of pure Turkish tobacco. Lorillard acquiredthe Murad brand in 1911 through the dissolution of the Cigarette Trust,explaining the high quality of the Murad advertisements in the following years.These five (5) “Murad - The Turkish Cigarette Box by S.
